Purpose:
The American Astronomical Society, founded in 1899, is dedicated to the advancement of astronomy and closely related branches of science.
Membership:
Open to researchers and students of astronomy,
and to others seriously interested in the advancement of
astronomy or related fields. Applicants must be nominated
by two current members of the society. Details of
membership criteria and dues structure are available

Membership Directory; subscription to the AAS Newsletter;
reduced subscription rates to Society journals; Reduced
registration for Society meetings.
Publications:
The Astronomical Journal; The Astrophysical

Bulletin of the American Astronomical Society.
Events:
Society meetings are held twice annually, in
January and in June. Each Division also meets annually,
at the discretion of the Divisional Committee, sometimes
in conjunction with a Society and sometimes separately.
